OverviewThe Waikato Breast Cancer Trust (WBCT) is a charitable trust enabling breast cancer research and audit. We investigate and evaluate diagnosis, prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Our research and audit programme is coordinated from the Breast Cancer Research office based on the Waikato Hospital campus in Hamilton. The Trust’s continued support of both local and international research work has ensured that women in New Zealand have access to the latest research advances and that our country remains at the forefront of international breast cancer research. The Waikato is a centre for a collaborative Australasian breast cancer research group called the Australia New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG). For more information click here to visit ANZBCTG website. The operations office for this group is based in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. The ANZBCTG collaborates with a number of other international cancer research groups including the International Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG). For more information click here to visit the IBCSG website. The National Health and Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Centre (NHMRC CTC) based at Sydney University is another research centre closely affiliated with the ANZBCTG. Statistical advice is obtained and enrolment (or randomisation) of patients in clinical trials through the ANZBCTG is performed by staff at the CTC. Waikato research staff also work directly with Sydney University staff on two surgical trials which are coordinated through the CTC. Click here to visit the NHMRC CTC website. |
