Mary-Ann Hamilton
Graduating in 1995 I experienced 4 years nursing in the Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care inpatient setting and was seconded to an Oncology project team. Following completion of the project I furthered my nursing experience in the Gynaecology inpatient ward where for a period I acted as Clinical Nurse Leader until leave to start my family. My own cancer experience in 2001 strengthened my resolve to support initiatives with a cancer care focus. On return to health I undertook several years of nursing practice at the Breast Care Centre and continued to enjoy working in the women's health field. In 2008 I accepted the role of coordinating the Waikato Breast Care Register.
The register has so much potential to provide valuable and meaningful information to influence patient care and outcomes. It covers the whole spectrum of service users and service providers and I believe it is a most valuable tool for the community. It is a privilege to be a part of this project and I look forward to seeing the register provide key insights and support positive health gains in the near future for the women of the Waikato, New Zealand and those affected by the cancer experience.
